PDO Thread Lift

Non-Surgical Lift & Tightening

PDO thread lifts use dissolvable sutures to mechanically lift sagging skin and stimulate collagen production — delivering a visible lifting effect without surgery, scalpels, or significant downtime.

The PDO (Polydioxanone) Thread Lift is a minimally invasive procedure that uses dissolvable sutures to lift and tighten sagging skin. Originally developed for cardiac surgery, PDO sutures have been adapted for aesthetic use to provide a safe, effective, and temporary lifting effect that also stimulates long-term collagen production.

Key Benefits

Non-surgical lifting of sagging skin

Immediate visible lifting effect

Stimulates collagen production for long-term improvement

Dissolvable sutures — no permanent implants

Minimal downtime compared to surgical facelift

Treats face, neck, jowls, and body

Results lasting 12–18 months

Can be combined with fillers and Botox

Local anesthesia only — no general anesthesia

Progressive improvement as collagen builds

How PDO Thread Lifts Work

PDO threads are inserted into the subcutaneous tissue using fine needles or cannulas. Once in place, the threads mechanically lift the overlying skin by anchoring to deeper tissue structures. The threads also trigger a foreign body response — the body's natural reaction to any foreign material — which stimulates fibroblast activity and collagen production around the threads.

As the PDO threads dissolve over 4–6 months, they are replaced by new collagen fibers that maintain the lifting and tightening effect. The result is both an immediate mechanical lift and a progressive improvement in skin quality and firmness.

Types of PDO Threads

Mono threads: Single, smooth threads inserted in a mesh pattern to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture. Best for overall skin quality improvement and mild laxity. Twisted/screw threads: Provide more volume and are used for areas needing tissue regeneration. Barbed threads (cog threads): Feature tiny barbs that grip the tissue and provide the most significant mechanical lifting effect. Used for jowls, cheeks, and neck.

Treatment Areas

The PDO Thread Lift can be used to address sagging in multiple areas: Brow lift: Elevating descended brows. Mid-face: Lifting flat cheeks and improving the nasolabial fold area. Jowls: Lifting and defining the jawline. Neck: Tightening loose neck skin. Décolletage: Improving skin laxity on the chest. Body: Treating loose skin on the abdomen, arms, and thighs.

Am I a Good Candidate?

PDO Thread Lifts are appropriate for adults experiencing mild to moderate skin laxity who want a lifting effect without surgery. They are most effective for patients in their 30s–50s with good skin quality. Patients with severe laxity may be better candidates for surgical intervention. During your consultation, we'll assess your anatomy and recommend the most appropriate treatment approach.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do PDO Thread Lift results last?

+

The mechanical lifting effect is immediate and lasts as long as the threads are present (4–6 months). The collagen stimulation effect continues after the threads dissolve, with results lasting 12–18 months total.

Is there downtime after a PDO Thread Lift?

+

Most patients experience mild swelling, bruising, and tenderness for 3–5 days. Some puckering or dimpling at insertion points is normal and resolves within 1–2 weeks. Most patients return to normal activities within a few days.

Can PDO threads be combined with fillers?

+

Yes. PDO threads and fillers are complementary treatments. Threads provide lift and structural support, while fillers restore volume. Botox can also be combined to relax muscles and enhance the overall result.
